Since coming into the NBA, Derrick Rose has had flashes of greatness when he was healthy in Chicago. The swift, agile, former NBA MVP was everything a team needed in a point guard before he was riddled with injuries.
This season with the Knicks, Rose seems to be back in form, injury-free and has started all 64 games averaging 18 points per game, while logging just under 33 minutes a game.
A season like Rose is having can help his cause this summer as the point guard is heading into free agency.
Detroit Pistons icon Isiah Thomas spoke on Rose’s future during a segment on Players Only Inside the NBA and felt this summer he could possibly sign with a title contender – the San Antonio Spurs.
Zeke felt pretty strong about Rose signing with the Silver and Black but we need to think about this.
First, the Spurs have rookie Dejounte Murray. His future is bright in the NBA and with continued development in the Spurs’ system, he could turn out to be one solid NBA player.
Second, Patty Mills’ free agency. He is having a great season for San Antonio off the bench and teams will be chasing him in the off season. Keeping him might be one of the top priorities for the Spurs this summer. But if he does leave San Antonio, Rose might fill in nicely.
As explosive of a player Rose is, I don’t feel the Spurs need to go after him.
Bottom line, Rose might be a liability. He’s showing he still has “it” on the floor but knee multiple surgeries, and the risk of him sustaining another one is shaky.
There maybe some fans who would love to have Rose in Silver and Black, looking at his history, it would not be a good investment for San Antonio.
